Crowne Plaza Athens  – Lobby bar, 5*

An Ondulated Ribbon on two levels

The former “Holiday Inn” hotel was originally transformed into Crowne Plaza Athens City Centre, 5*, in 2004. The client request involved a full renovation of its lobby bar – the tricky part was that the existing suspended ceiling had to remain intact due to HVAC installations and that the final proposal had to be implemented in just 2-weeks time and while the hotel was in full operation. The concept involved a ribbon-like ondulated line and it was implemented through a wooden customized cladding system designed in separate units for quick installation. The lobby bar expands in two separate levels and involves sub-spaces of different qualities: gathering spaces for groups of guests, sole visitors and passing-through customers have different seating options. TV room is located on the inside part. Special  wooden box-type elements were designed facing the  outdoor garden which was also renovated and visually connected to the lobby bar interior. Lighting was also designed anew; external type lighting features were used and indirect lighting to build ambience and a smooth effect avoiding glare. Carpentry and flooring also changed – Most of the existing furniture was transformed to fit the new concept. Finally, a soft-redo was performed on the reception desk. The study was conducted in June 2018 and the project was implemented in September 2019.

The project was published in several digital and printed media.
