Holiday Inn Athens, 4* is located in Attica road, very close to the airport and it provides 200 different room types. Future plans include a full renovation. Nevertheless, in order to optimize daily Hotel Operation, the IHG (InterContinental Hotel Group of hotels) introduced the Open Lobby Concept. The specifications were proposed by IHG design team and discussed with both Hotel management and IHG Europe Head and Design Manager Europe for the best possible implementation. The lobby, e-Bar & lobby bar were completely re-designed while the hotel remained on full operation mode. We chose to maintain several hotel features and make all necessary transformations and additions to provide a full new style. New carpentry works and ceiling transformations were done at the main lobby whereas a new seating area was developed to provide service 24/7. Just as the open lobby concept proposes, the seating areas may provide the guest the option to enjoy reading, playing TV games, watching TV or even having lunch 24/7. A new e-bar was designed to provide all necessary digital services. The lobby bar was re-designed from scratch maintaining just the necessary ceiling features such as the HVAC system. Aluminum windows and balcony doors were replaced to ensure maximum soundproofing. Lighting design was of critical importance as it was a key element for all lobby spaces. The project was published in several digital and printed media.
