The approx. 4.000 sq.m. land plot in Spetses island holds an amazing view to Costa and Hydra island. As it is surrounded by existing buildings on higher levels is slightly sloped, the first step was to conducta detailed site analysis. Based on the site plan, we visited the plot numerous times in order to carefully identify and index all landscape features such as inclination entities, visual qualities, aesthetics and hydrology/drainage patterns, etc. The landscape analysis was based on the Layer Cake method. In this project we acted as landscape architects only – the building and its outline were decided by another architect. Our design strategy was to carefully plan our terraces in a way to ensure all views are free of obstacles, to separate area uses and to combine “private” and “public” areas. A tennis court was placed right next to the house, a herb garden next to outdoor dining and food preparation area and a series of small seating areas as the slope descended to the edge of the property. A swimming pool with its pool house and a yoga corner were placed on each side.
